just the two of us

A few weeks ago, we were getting very close to our 30 week marker which meant no more flying so the pressure was on at 28 weeks and a half pregnant…. No honeymoon and we haven’t been on vacation just us two… ever! So before baby gets here we made a very fast decision and booked a vacation. 4 days later we were on a plane to Cuba.

It was perfect! We had a great time just the two of us. We took advantage of appreciating our last little moments as a family of two, soon to be three. We walked, talked, swam, dined, caught up on movies and naps and loved the fact that we got to spend a week away from phones, computers, work and our hectic life (although I must admit we did miss our doggies very much…we did find our own little Cuban Mika and Clara whom followed us around all week…what can I say, we’re dog people!).

I am so glad we decided to be spontaneous and catch a plane, and go away for a week just the two of us…

Disappearing Act Part 1

Hello there friends
Sorry for the disappearing act!
Lots lots and lots more have been going on over here since mother’s day.

A brief recap so all you wonderful folks know I am still alive.
I will be back with more pictures later.
In the past month, husband and I finally went on vacation, I guess you can say our honeymoon, got a stomach bug, caught a cold, fought off a sinus infection, had a few doctor appointments for the baby bump, have been catching up on work and house chores… and I am sure the list goes on.

We here in Montreal are going through a heat spell which normally I would enjoy but entering my seventh month of pregnancy I am having a bit of difficulty coping with 30 degree Celsius weather… so while I type this blog post lying in bed with my two dogs, lap top and a/c on high (only room in the house that has it), I am ending it here for today with a few pictures from my weekend of gardening and pets!

Pictures of vacation and baby project to follow!

why is it that ...

why is it that dogs sleep like this?
when it should be like this!

it is a rare occurrence to see my dogs sleep in their designated beds
they love switching spots
and that makes me laugh
:)

obsessions

By now I am sure you have all figured out that not only am I baby obsessed, and dog obsessed I am also a little Etsy obsessed, so….
What does the love for my dogs, the discovery of a baby and a find on Etsy result in?
This irresistible purchase!
Now tell me, if you were in my shoes, could you resist?

but where did she go?

This morning I was folding laundry and cleaning the kitchen, drinking my coffee and checking my emails…the usual, when it’s early and the house is still quiet.

So I am going about my business when I realise, Clara is sleeping on her doggy chair and the cats are resting on my office chairs…but where is Mika?

So I start. I look high and low and everywhere in between, she’s nowhere to be found.
Bah! I figure she’ll eventually show up.

I am hanging the laundry to dry in the living room on the drying rack when I hear her snort (she is a short nose dog which means breathing and snoring are really loud!).
After following the sound of her snoring… I discovered that she had somehow figured out how to unzip her new doggy bed cover and had transformed it into a doggy tent or sleeping bag of some sort.
Ha! So smart and very human-like talent, to unzip a zipper!?
Now I have rezipped it every time and she keeps on unzipping it.

My dog knows how to work a zipper!
What strange human things do your dogs do to make you laugh?

lulu & coco

My wonderful friends Christine & Randy came for a visit from Ottawa to have dinner with us last night. They came bearing wonderful gifts for our baby jelly bean.

Her mother has recently opened a children’s clothing, bedding and accessory store in Ottawa named lulu&coco. Christine’s mother, Denise, is a very talented woman and since I can remember my friend always wore, growing up, the cutest ensembles all hand made by her mom. Now we can all be as lucky and spoil our children with well made, handmade, children’s clothing, accessories and bedding by supporting a local mother whom has opened her doors to the public.
Little Miss Jelly bean received a beautifully knit hat in the most wonderful blues and pinks with a gorgeous flower on it as well as two colourful and soft hand sewn receiving blankets. She will most definitely be coming home in one of those beauties and I can’t wait to put her in that hat.
Thanks Christine & Denise for these wonderful and thoughtful gifts made from the heart for our little girl!

So for any of you shopping in the area, or if you want to send her an email (perhaps she ships, not sure yet), go and visit her online store here or drop by.

*As a side note, there are these fabulous handmade washable diapers I have my eye on and have been put on my “to buy” list! for baby.*

Spoil the dogs!

Hopefully this doggy bed will prove special and be loved and not chewed!
Ah one can hope when spoiling her dogs with an oversized new doggy bed.
Why is it that dogs insist on chewing up blankets and doggy beds no matter how many times you say NO! ? but hey, no matter what they do or how many things they chew, I love them!
(seriously this bed is big enough to fit a great dane I am sure... or at least let my two beasts cuddle on it and they can each have their own side of the 'bed')

Baby Frank

Ok so as much as I hope this little one is a mommy’s girl, usually more often than not, the saying is right and in my case it has always been true… I am totally a daddy’s girl (which means Ricardo's chances of having a daddy's girl are looking good!).
I remember tagging along everywhere with my dad and it’s not because I am all grown up that that has changed.
My dad and I have always gone for a drive when life gets hectic or just to spend some time together and this past Sunday was no different.
It was a nice sunny day and we decided, let’s take a drive… that took us across the border and into Target. Let me first say while I know I should be supporting my own (Zellers), Target just beats Zellers’ butt by a thousand miles.
Here are some of the finds I just couldn’t pass up on!

seriously ...paul frank pj onesie with polka dot ruffles on the butt
too good to pass up on

Daddy designed quilt

Round two of the quilt! I said I wanted to learn how to quilt so I did. My first round was a practice round. A small, only two layer quilt in beautiful rich purples and turquoises with modern cartoon print doggy faces. A few mistakes, a few oups’ but overall I am proud.

So I went to Fabricville, ready to buy material and confront the real one.
Mistake number one: I brought my husband, daddy-to-be, with me.

So you are wondering why this is a mistake? Let me tell you why... as mommies, and woman and girls, we have style and taste and vision and know what we want. When you mix a man into this equation, and not any man, your husband, your baby’s daddy, you apparently have to take into consideration his opinion... on choice of fabric?!

Ricardo insisted that the 'dancing cow in their boxer' fabric was hilarious and a must in the baby’s life. He even waited himself in line to have it cut and matched other colour fabric as well as paid for it. He was so excited and so happy, so.... I made the daddy designed quilt!

Sadly, even though this quilt is thicker and better sewn and has less mistakes, it has dancing cows on it... but his face every time he sees it... let’s just say, maybe the cow quilt can grow on me!

Baby Bump Art (half way there)

I am happy to announce I am half way there and to celebrate this, my extremely talented best friend, has turned my belly, once more, into a masterpiece.
Et voila! My 20 week belly in all its glory!
Thanks auntie Pooh! Little Miss Jelly Bean is so so so lucky to have such an amazingly talented auntie like you who will love her!!!!

you must admit that just by this picture, aren't we going to be by far the most rockin' auntie and mommy team to this baby ?

(till us being funny turns in to us being embarrassing once she is a teenager, ha!)

Warm weather = bath time!

Warm weather in our house means bath time… a time when my dogs actually hate me, run from me and give me that sad puppy face that tries to get them out of the undeniable bath! Clara is a 10 year old golden retriever that has way too much fur and a bit of a Buddha belly but all of this changes once she gets a bath… she looks so wimpy.
I love love love my dogs, especially when they smell all nice and clean! Yay to warm weather!!!

M.I.A.

7 days without a post... and here I set myself a goal of posting more often! Boy oh boy... well actually now it’s girl oh girl! ha! It has been a busy week and I am checkin’ in just for a moment.
I have lots of pictures and projects and events I will be posting about in the next little while. I am still recovering from a hectic week of work and baby stuff. We had a few doctors’ appointments last week that had us running around as well as the daily grind making everything chaotic.
Our doctor’s appointment at the hospital went well... after 3 hours of uncooperative baby :)
This little Miss is apparently as stubborn as her father and mother.
Three hours, 2 nurses, 4 ultrasounds, one quick jog around the hospital, a coffee and three chocolate bars... we got her moving and visible. She is either really camera shy or really stubborn, lol! Ricardo and I think it’s more along the lines of stubborn!
Everything is coming along well. She is growing and kicking and pulling a few karate moves now and again and I love it! So, while I could post our ultrasound pictures, I will spare you. I am probably one of few that can admit that my little girl, on photo, looks like an extraterrestrial being...so instead, I am posting two cute picture of baby bump (quality: poor ... but you try taking a full body picture via webcam!)
Till soon!
